Artist's Statement

I am a scientist, mystic and artist (perhaps not in that order).

Each of these, apparently contradictory facets combine to make a whole being - searching for higher truths and sharing those attained.

I make art because I need to broadcast (my) truth into the world.

My art is the synthesis of my skills acquired to date. It refines as I refine.

Science has given me tools to live in virtual worlds of absolutes, creating there and bringing the images forward into reality.

Mysticism allows me to layer into the images initiatory dramas and esoteric truths, using the ancient symbolic language of the Hermeticists and Alchemists.

These combine with my personal aesthetic sense to create the "Art".

I hold some ideas about art that others may not share.

Art should be well executed, demonstrating the artist's competence in the medium used. Art should result in an aesthetic object connected to a cultural context. Art should reveal something about the human condition (in general) or the artist's condition (in particular) and, most importantly, Art should serve as a vehicle for initiation into higher ideas, that elevate up the Viewer and make them closer to fundamental or divine truths, in proportion to their own understanding and wisdom.

Anything else is craft, or decoration, or statement - valid endeavours... but not what I am trying to do.

I therefore firmly believe that art is my duty, and the artist is servant. I believe that art is as important an endeavour as any, and is capable of revealing truths untouchable by science.

Art should exist, therefore on all levels, from the object itself, through layers of meaning and context, up until the final, abstract meaning at the limit of the artist's own understanding.

Dr Peter Kalt is an award-winning research scientist working in the fields of image-processing and laser diagnostics in fluid mechanics and flames.
He has co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications, holds international patents and has extensive experience as an Engineering consultant and has worked in labs across the globe.

Peter Kalt is an Egyptologist and mystic, with a strong personal connection to Hermetic traditions, and participant in the Esoteric Initiatory traditions of Western Philosophy. Peter Kalt has travelled widely, over 3 decades, to over 30 countries throughout Europe, North America, Asia and Africa. The sum of these experiences find their expression in his artworks, which are held in private collections around the world.

Peter Kalt has been creating art all his life, but has been creating ray-traced digital artworks since 2000. His art is only now generally available, in select galleries and online, since 2010.

Peter Kalt is currently based in Adelaide, South Australia.
